About Me

Thank you for visiting "Wellspring Cantata."

My name is Bryn Rice, and I would like to share a little about myself. I was born and raised in east Tennessee and attended university in middle Tennessee, where I earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in 2010. It was during my university years that I met my beautiful wife, who I married in the summer of 2011.

I believe I have been blessed with a story worth sharing, though there certainly is not enough space to share it all here (the book will get written one of these days!) A favorite speaker of mine once said, "God has strange ways. He raised Joseph in a desert to use him in the palace; he raised Moses in a palace to use him in the desert." By God's mercy, I can relate to having a total paradigm shift. I grew up in a very small town, and though my family did some traveling while I was a child, I definitely could not say that I was "well traveled." By the time I graduated college, I had never been out of the United States, and I had never been on an airplane. Now I make my residence in Indonesia - about as far away from Tennessee as you could hope to get!

Work brought me to Indonesia - teaching at an international school. I have been here since 2010, and since moving here I have gotten married, begun to experience what it means to be mentored and be a mentor (another passion of mine), worked on learning three different languages, and traveled to numerous destinations among three different countries - to name just a few life-molding things. My wife and I, along with our most recent addition - a very fluffy Pomeranian, love all the joys and challenges that come with being expatriates. For the time being, we couldn't see ourselves anywhere else.

The journey of learning about other cultures and getting to travel to several countries has opened my eyes so much and helped me develop new perspective. I have a long ways to go - but I know this: I love people, cultures, and languages. I am intensely interested in how truth is conveyed in the different cultures of the world, and I am also interested in musical trends, especially the ones transmitting from the West and impacting the world over.

As you may have inferred already, I love languages, and that includes writing. I am excited to start this blog as a means of personal accountability and sharing with my students and whoever else comes to this blog (for more on the background of this blog, read here). I welcome feedback and will do my best to respond within the time that I have. If you would like to contact me personally, you may do so here.
